MTN Group has announced the appointment of Lwazi Bam as group chief risk officer (GCRO) from 01 June. He will MTN's enterprise-wide risk management and compliance functions and join the group executive committee. Togo is launching six regional technology innovation centres as part of its Digital Acceleration Project (PANT), TogoFirst reported. The 'pods' are planned in the prefectures of Tone, Kozah, Tchaoudjo, Ogou, Kloto and Zio. Authorities have launched a call for expressions of interest by 30 April, seeking to recruit a firm to design and oversee the construction.

Telecom Namibia and Angola Telecom have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and Commercial Terms Agreement (CTA) in Swakopmund, to strengthen regional and international digital connectivity along Southern Africa's west coast. The MoU and CTA enable Angola Telecom to access international capacity via Telecom Namibia's Equiano Subsea Cable landing in Swakopmund, and prepare for collaboration linked to Angola Telecom's SARSSy Subsea Cable System.

MTN Nigeria to begin compensating subscribers for poor service between November and January

MTN Nigeria said it will compensate subscribers for poor network quality on 24 April, following a directive from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). Compensation in the form of airtime credit aims to address service failures in November, December and January, with the process starting from 24 April. The NCC ordered mobile operators to recompense customers in areas where quality-of-service benchmarks were not met during those three months.

HKBN's half-year revenue grows more than 5%, EBITDA up 4%

Hong Kong operator HKBN posted revenue of HKD 6.02 billion for the six months ended 28 February 2026 (1H2026), which represents an increase of 5.1 percent year-on-year. After excluding handsets and other product sales, core service revenue grew by 8 percent, the company said. EBITDA rose 4.2 percent to HKD 1.25 billion.

Khazna Data Centers has announced that its DXB8 facility in Dubai has been awarded the Zero Waste Certification by SCS Global Services, a third-party sustainability certification body. The certification verifies that the DXB8 facility, excluding IT waste from data halls, has achieved 99.55 percent waste diversion from landfill over a twelve-month audited period.

Iridium Communications, global satellite services provider, has reported total revenue of USD 219.1 million for Q1 2026, up 2 percent from the year-earlier quarter. Service revenue increased by 2 percent from Q1 2025 to account for 72 percent of total revenue in the quarter.

New research from Virgin Media O2 shows that AI tools are directing to fake customer service phone lines, putting millions of Brits at risk of fraud. Despite the risks, around 1 in 10 Brits said they always trust a phone number generated by AI; with 15 percent never taking any action to verify the legitimacy of these numbers. Virgin Media O2 is investing heavily in anti-fraud technology to protect customers, and encouraging them to report suspicious numbers to 7726.

UK fibre altnet Netomnia has reached the milestone of more than 50,000 premises serviceable from the Brierley Hill Exchange in Dudley, in the West Midlands. The Brierley Hill roll-out is part of the group's wider national full-fibre network build, with over 3 million serviceable premises reached across the UK to date. The network build from the Brierley Hill Exchange is ongoing as Netomnia continues to expand across Dudley and the West Midlands, with more premises to be enabled in due course.
