Amazon expands renewable portfolio to support data centre growth

Amazon has signed nine new renewable energy agreements in Australia, adding 430 MW of capacity and bringing its total contracted renewable portfolio in the country to approximately 990 MW. The projects span New South Wales and Victoria and include a mix of wind, utility-scale solar, distributed solar and battery storage. South Korea has led discussions on AI in next-generation communications at the 49th ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 6 international standards meeting, held in Seoul from 13-17 April 2026. The National Radio Research Agency, under the ministry of science and ICT, said the meeting resulted in the establishment of a new advisory group on AI standardisation, including physical AI, which focuses on enabling machines and robots to perceive, decide and act in real-world environments.

Play sells Huawei Wi-Fi 7 mesh router

Polish operator Play, controlled by Iliad, has started offering the Huawei Wi-Fi Mesh X3 Pro Suite. The device supports the Wi-Fi 7 standard for speeds up to 3.6 Gbps with Mesh+ technology for covering up to 150 m2. Customers can buy the router for PLN 1,199 without a subscription contract or PLN 999 with an internet contract.

Russian operator MTS has engineered a single digital environment for the 228,000-m2 residential complex Shagal of property developer Etalon. Engineering systems supporting digital services for residents and the property manager have been integrated into a single online system, supporting security, metering and other services - all accessible from mobile apps. The project will be scaled to all other development projects from Etalon across the country.

Cellfie launches 33 new base stations in Q1

Georgian operator Cellfie said it deployed 33 new base stations in the first quarter of this year, while 40 existing base stations were upgraded. The new infrastructure came in both urban and regional areas as well as high-traffic tourist locations — including Imereti, Adjara, Kakheti, Kvemo Kartli, and Tbilisi.

Play offers cashback on premium smartphones

Polish operator Play, controlled by Iliad, has introduced a promotion on selected smartphones from Samsung and Motorola. A PLN 600 cashback is available when buying the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra or S26+, or PLN 500 for buying the Samsung Galaxy S26. The promotion is valid until 10 May. A PLN 1,000 cashback is offered when buying the Motorola Signature until 08 May, and the cashback totals PLN 300 on the Realme 16 Pro+ 5G until 29 April.

Telefonica Germany expends 5G in Heidersdorf, Luebberstedt, Oettersdorf

Telefonica Germany announced it has expended its 5G network coverage to Heidersdorf, Luebberstedt and Oettersdorf. In each of the three municipalities the company has started to operate a new mobile site. Telefonica has implemented 2,000 expansion measures in the first quarter of this year in Germany to improve its mobile network coverage.

Orange Poland offers fibre broadband promo at PLN 40

Orange Poland introduced a promotion of its fixed broadband services at up to 300 Mbps. The promotion also covers a convergent tariff with mobile services. Fixed broadband is offered for PLN 39.99 monthly subscription, or PLN 69.99 with the mobile plan including 500 GB per month, based on a 24-month contract. The promotion is available in certain areas only, where Orange offers FTTH.

PKP PLK completes GSM-R deployment on Central Railway Line

Polish railway carrier PKP PLK announced the mounting of the last tower of the GSM-R system has started along the 224-km Central Railway Line in Secemin in the Swientokrzyskie region. Work is carried out by a consortium formed by Nokia Solutions and Networks, Fonon and SPC-2. The launch of the GSM-R system is planned on this line later this August.

TIM offers 200GB of 5G data for under EUR 5

Telecom Italia (TIM) is once again contacting existing customers to offer them a special month-long data bundle at "5G Ultra" speeds of up to 2 Gbps for under EUR 5, reports Mondo Mobile Web. The 'TIM xTE 200 Giga Silver' option comes with 200GB of data at a one-off cost of EUR 4.99.

Lycamobile wins appeal against regulatory fine in Belgium

Lycamobile Belgium has won an appeal against an administrative fine issued by the regulator Bipt in August 2025 for inadequate procedures for refunding unused prepaid credit to departing customers. The appeals court in Brussels said the regulator did not investigate the case or motivate its decision sufficiently.

O2 Czech Republic is offering customers the opportunity to purchase new models of Hisense TV set. Televisions with 50-inch and 55-inch screens have become available have gone on sale and a CZK 1,000 discount is available for customers buying one using the mobile application My O2 until 03 May.

Movistar Mexico (Telefonica) has confirmed that it will continue as official sponsor Mexican Baseball League (LMB) for the third consecutive year. The company announced the deal to coincide with the start of the new LMB season featuring 20 teams spread across 18 Mexican states.
