Iliad vehicle Freya brings Tele2 stake into line with voting rights holding

Freya Investissement said it has begun to raise its economic ownership of Tele2 in order to bring it into line with the number of voting rights that it holds. Freya is a special investment vehicle owned by Iliad and owns approximately 19 percent of the shares in the operator but 27 percent of the votes, with a reference date of 06 February 2026. It intends to expand its stake to 27 percent within the next few months.

Dutch parliament backs public broadcaster working more with streamers

The Dutch parliament approved a resolution calling on the public broadcaster NPO to work on establishing a public-private partnership with streaming companies. The aim is to expand its resources and reach, building on previous joint productions with international groups. The NPO and its members, with government support, is expected to present a proposal before the parliament's summer recess.

Rogers Communications has announced the launch of the Amazon Luna Cloud Gaming app on the Xfinity entertainment platform in Canada. The German government wants to require streaming services and broadcasters to invest 8 percent of their annual revenues in domestic film productions, to support the local audiovisual industry. Telenor IoT said it has now exceeded 30 million connected units under deployment worldwide, including True and Celcom Digi, after accelerating its growth in the past year through strategic initiatives. Hungary's Magyar Telekom announced it is negotiating with the National Media and Infocommunications Authority to renew its licence for 2x10 MHz frequency blocks in the 2,100 MHz band, which are set to expire on 30 June 2027. AT&T has launched the amiGO Jr Phone, a simple smartphone made for children and designed to give parents more control and choice. The administration of Chile's president-elect José Antonio Kast has announced the appointment of Romina Garrido as Undersecretary of Telecommunications of Chile and head of sector watchdog Subtel, replacing Claudio Araya. Portuguese telecom regulator Anacom has issued recommendations to operators and proposals to the government aimed at quickly restoring services in the event of an emergency and reducing the impact on end-users. This follows disruptions to services caused by storms Kristin and Leonardo. A key recommendation is for operators to implement temporary national roaming agreements, allowing users to access other available networks when their primary service is unavailable.

The rail operator NS in the Netherlands has adopted the publicroam standard for Wi-Fi access at its offices, maintenance sites and 83 stations. The system is designed for employees, as an automatic, secure log-in option, and also allows public access at selected locations, such as waiting rooms.

Apple Sports app updated to include golf event scores

Apple has added golf to the list of supported sports on the Apple Sports app for iPhone users. This provides fans with live scores from all official PGA Tour and LPGA Tour events, starting with the PGA Tour's WM Phoenix Open (05-08 February). Russian operator MTS has launched a new anti-fraud function for subscribers connected to the service 'Guard+ For Families'. The service will send customers SMS and push-messages if their family members on the account receive suspected fraud messages. The subscription also includes a service blocking unwanted calls, as well as insurance cover for telephone fraud. The monthly subscription costs RUB 249.

Belarus's beCloud reaches 94.5% territorial coverage with 7,600 LTE base stations

Belarus' state-owned infrastructure operator beCloud said it has reached more than 7,600 LTE base stations across the country. LTE covers 99.6 percent of the country's population and 94.5 percent of the area, and around 73 percent of mobile data traffic was transferred over the 4G network in 2025. The data traffic over 4G grew by almost 18 percent year-on-year, as the user base exceeded 7.1 million at the end of 2025.

DStelecom expands fibre network around Vila Flor

Portugal's DStelecom is expanding its fibre-optic network to six villages in Vila Flor (Assares, Candoso, Carvalho de Egas, Lodoes, Roios, and Sampaio), bringing high-speed internet to these rural areas for the first time. The project, expected to be completed by the end of the first quarter, will also boost existing network capacity in Vila Flor and Nabo. This investment covers approximately 1,300 new homes, bringing the total coverage in Vila Flor to about 5,200 homes, or 80 percent of the municipality.

Uzbekistan operator Ucell has introduced a promotion to customers connecting to its tariff line Bor, giving the new subscribers  unlimited 5G services until the end of this year. The  promotion is valid for new connections to prepaid Bor 60, Bor 80, Bor 110 and Bor 160 plans until 15 March.

Russian mobile operators increase download speeds in 2025 - study

Russian mobile operators increased download speeds by 10 to 14 percent in 2025, according to a study from the agency TelecomDaily. The average speeds reached 24 to 36 Mbps. Measurements were carried out throughout the year on all mobile networks across the country using the local service Megabitus. The service was launched as a replacement for SpeedTest, which is blocked by the federal telecommunications regulator Roskomnadzor since July 2025.

Kyivstar serves customers in sign language at shops

Ukrainian operator Kyivstar has introduced service for customers with limited hearing in its shops in eight cities across the country. The project implemented in cooperation with the NGO Public Movement "Social Unity" offers synced online translation in sign language for customers there. The option is available in two shops each in Kiev and Dnipro, as well as in shops in Ivano-Frankivsk, Bar, Lviv, Vinnitsya, Lutsk and Kharkiv.
