Radboud University picks Fairphone for staff devices

The Radboud University announced it will start offering the Fairphone to employees from February as the default option for their work phone. The alternative is a refurbished Samsung smartphone or bringing their own phone and receiving a Sim only, according to the Dutch university's new sustainability policy.

International SVOD services spend less on marketing in Netherlands in Q4

Streaming video services in the Netherlands spent around 35 percent less on above-the-line advertising in Q4 2025 compared to a year earlier, at around EUR 25 million in total, figures from Nielsen show. Especially the international platforms advertised less, while local players Videoland, NLziet and NPO advertised more.

Cyber Security Council recommends big increase in Dutch govt spending on digital resilience

The Cyber Security Council in the Netherlands has called on the government to invest EUR 690 million annually in digital security in order to improve the country's economic resilience. The advisory board said the new government needs to accelerate implementation of the national cybersecurity strategy, in line with the new Nato norm to invest 1.5 percent of GDP in broader infrastructure resilience.

Talpa improves profitability in 2024 results

Dutch broadcaster Talpa reported improved results for 2024 thanks to the sale of its e-commerce activities. According to a recent public filing, the company's revenues from continuing activities rose 1.6 percent to EUR 419 million, and the EBITDA margin nearly doubled to 10.3 percent.

Epic Games loses court appeal over Dutch fines for Fortnite abuses

Epic Games has lost a court appeal in Rotterdam against fines imposed by the Dutch competition and consumer regulator ACM. As a result the EUR 1.125 million in fines for misleading sales practices are upheld. The ACM fined the company in March 2024 after finding its games Fortnite was driving children to make purchases via abusive marketing, misleading timers and 'dark pattern' designs, playing on the vulnerability of minors.

Viaplay has extended its broadcast rights in the Netherlands for major international darts tournaments. As a result it will continue to show events like the World and European Championships, World Masters and World Matchplay through 2032.

Dutch consumers union starts lawsuit against ING over Google Pay data privacy

The Dutch consumers union has launched a lawsuit against ING calling for more disclosure on the bank's agreements for handling personal data over Google Pay. In 2024 ING withdrew its own mobile payments app, saying customers with Android phones could instead rely on the Google service. However, the consumer rights group said more transparency is needed on what happens to ING customer data.

Eurofiber announced the addition of Netways Europe to its partner network for building private 5G networks. Fairphone still a small player but market share growing in Netherlands

Fairphone remains a small player in its home market the Netherlands but the company is slowing expanding its share of the smartphone market. Data collected quarterly by the Telecompaper Consumer Insights panel shows the Fairphone was used by just 0.1 percent of Dutch smartphone owners in 2022 but the share increased to a peak of 0.3 percent of the installed base in 2025, showing clear structural growth. That means around 45,000 to 50,000 people use a Fairphone in the Netherlands, Telecompaper estimates.

The outlook for the enterprise mobile market in the Netherlands has deteriorated, as the uncertain economic climate and increased competition puts pressure on prices and spending. OctoNona takes over A2B Internet

A2B Internet, an Amsterdam-based provider of business internet and data centre services, has been acquired by rival OctoNona. The takeover gives the company owned by Photon Capital an expanded platform for connectivity and infrastructure services. It earlier bought Layer23, which focuses on Layer 2 Ethernet services, and Atom86, a specialist in IP transit and network infrastructure.

Leaseweb names new MD for Netherlands

Hosting company Leaseweb has named Bert Stam managing director for its business in the Netherlands. He will focus on realising further growth in the company's home market, responding to the increased demand for hybrid cloud solutions and digital sovereignty. Stam replaces Pieter Lacroix, who has led the business since the end of 2023.

KPN reports jump in online meeting traffic during winter storms

KPN said online meeting traffic on its broadband network was 40 percent higher in the past week than the average traffic in the 12 weeks prior. This was attributed to more people working from home due to the snow in the Netherlands. The operator said there was a clear peak in video calls and online meetings, with outgoing internet traffic also up an average 12 percent. On 07 January, upload traffic was over a fifth (22%) higher than a normal Wednesday.

AirInternet names new CEO

AirInternet announced that Ralph Rademakers has become CEO from the start of 2026. He previously led international sales at the Dutch operator and has helped expanded the group's operations with strategic partnerships in Europe. The company specialises in private 4G/5G network connections for business customers. It started in 2016 as a MVNO and has since expanded to 14 countries and over 50 reseller partners.

Vodafone NL expands unlimited data offering with 3 new plans

Vodafone Netherlands has launched three different unlimited mobile data plans. With speeds up to 1 Gbps over 5G, the plans differ in the amount of call minutes and roaming allowances. They are available for both consumer and business customers, with the latter also getting extra security and connectivity options.

Ziggo refreshes branding in new ad campaign

Dutch cable operator Ziggo is launching a new marketing campaign and brand positioning. Accompanied by a light refresh of its brand colours and design, the campaign features the tagline 'the always everything network' ('Het altijd alles netwerk'), underlining how its broadband services can support many activities at once for busy households, such as video calls, gaming and streaming.

Broadband, TV, mobile soon most popular multi-play bundle

Broadband, TV and mobile (BBTVMO) is set to become the most popular consumer multi-play bundle in 2026 in the Netherlands. According to research by Telecompaper, the combination already had the second biggest subscriber base in Q3 2025, at one in four households in the Netherlands.

Dutch TV time down 5% year-on-year in December

TV viewing time in the Netherlands reached a seasonal peak in December, but was still down 5 percent year-on-year, figures from the NMO show. Average daily time watching the main TV in the home was 211 minutes per day, including 130 minutes for linear TV (-6%) and 81 minutes for VOD services (-5%).

Odido owners revive IPO plans - report

The private equity owners of Odido have revived plans for an IPO of the Dutch operator. The stock market listing in Amsterdam could start as soon as this month and raise about EUR 1 billion or more, people familiar with the matter told Bloomberg. Odido confirmed last year that it was considering an IPO, but the listing never happened due to turbulent market conditions.

VodafoneZiggo works on customer service automation with DeepDesk

VodafoneZiggo has improved its customer service in a cooperation with the Amsterdam-based company Deepdesk. According to an interview posted by the companies, this has supported automation of 20 percent of customer contacts, a 15 percent reduction in the time to handle customer queries and a total savings of some 36,000 man hours. Customer satisfaction also improved, the company said.

RamNode cuts Netherlands operating costs 70% with move to OpenMetal

OpenMetal announced that cloud provider RamNode has modernized its Netherlands data centre operations using OpenMetal's enterprise bare metal platform. The migration to the new infrastructure resulted in around 70 percent lower costs and a 16-fold increase in virtual machine density. RamNode is now considering a similar deployment in other locations, including Singapore, the supplier said.
