
3.8 million camera phones ship to EMEA region in Q2 2003

Shipments of phones with integrated cameras are growing in EMEA (Europe, Middle East & Africa), by 166% in Q2 2003 compared with Q1 2003 despite the overall mobile phone market being somewhat stagnant, according to Canalys. Nokia is overall leader with 42.6% share, followed by Sony Ericsson on 22.1% and Samsung with 10.5%. The total amount of camera phones sold in the EMEA region in Q2 2003 was 3.84 million, compared with 1.44 million in Q1 2003.High-end smart phones, such as the Nokia 3650 and Sony Ericsson P800, are joined in this market by less expensive offerings from these vendors as well as a range of competitively priced models from Asian vendors such as Samsung, Sharp, Panasonic, NEC and LG.
