3 Denmark scraps roaming fees in some countries

3 Denmark said it is the first operator in Denmark to scrap roaming charges in a number of European countries in an initiative called 3LikeHome. From 17 March, Tre's customers will be able to make voice calls, use the web and send text messages at the same price as in Denmark when roaming in a number of countries within and outside the EU. The Hutchison Whampoa unit said Danes travel abroad more than the average EU citizen and use their smartphones more when they are overseas.

3LikeHome will be included in every retail subscription that provides unlimited voice calls as well as a number of business subscriptions with inclusive calls. Customers will be able to use their smartphones in the same was as they do at home in Denmark when they are in Sweden, the UK, Eire, Italy, Austria and Hong Kong. It is available on any network in those countries, not just when roaming on a 3 grid. Customers will be able to receive calls and ring Danish numbers, and send SMS and MMS to Danish numbers. They will be able to use mobile data from their general subscription allowance.

3 Denmark said it is adding the popular holiday and business travel destinations France, Norway, Switzerland and Germany to its 3LikeHome service, which lets customers make voice calls, use the web and send text messages at the same price as in Denmark. Hutchison Whampoa unit 3 Denmark said it has appointed Sune Porsborg Borsen as its customer relationship manger. He joins Tre from a post as senior consultant at advertising and communications bureau Wibroe, Duckert & Partners. Orange Switzerland announces new EU data roaming option

Orange Switzerland will launch a new EU Travel Data Option on 11 March costing CHF 20 for 200 MB, which works out at CHF 0.10 per MB. Customers will receive a warning text message when 90 percent and 100 percent of the data volume included has been used up. Once the data volume included has been completely used up, the data roaming option is disabled, and can be renewed in a single click on the customer's smartphone.

3 Denmark FY EBITDA rises but ARPU and revenues fall

Hutchison Whampoa said 3 Denmark posted total revenue of DKK 1.998 billion in 2013, down 5 percent from DKK 2.098 billion a year earlier. Net customer service revenue fell 4 percent to DKK 1.772 billion from DKK 1.837 billion. Handset revenue declined to DKK 153 million from DKK 190 million in 2012. EBITDA rose by 7 percent to DKK 712 million from DKK 663 million. Blended average revenue per active user (ARPU) in 2013 declined by 20 percent to DKK 172.52.

A1 discontinues Abroadband web roaming service

A1 Telekom Austria is discontinuing its mobile internet roaming service Abroadband on 01 April after three years of operation, Austrian newspaper Die Presse said on its website. The service enabled travellers to get online from EUR 0.54 per megabyte, Die Presse said. At the time of its launch, then-CCO Alexander Sperl said the company had 400 million potential customers for Abroadband in the EU alone.
