4.6 million Italians used mobile number portability
There are 4.6 million Italians who have so far benefited from mobile number portability, i.e. the possibility of changing mobile phone operator but still maintaining their own number, according to the Annual Report on the state of Italy’s Telecommunications Market. In regards to the distribution of the passages between the various operators, the Authority underlines that, "as was expected, 3 - in the quality of new entry – acquired a higher number of lines than those handed over, with a difference of 15 percentage points between its own share as “donor” and “receiver”, while Vodafone and Wind received less lines than those they hand over, however in a more contained manner than TIM (including TACS)". The situation on the mobile number portability front on 30 April 2005 was as follows: H3G donor 2.2 percent receiver 17.2 percent, TIM GSM donor 34.8 percent receiver 34.2 percent, TIM TACS donor 9.8 percent receiver 0 percent, Vodafone donor 27.9 percent receiver 25 percent and Wind donor 25.3 percent receiver 23.6 percent.
