A1 deploys Alcatel-Lucent vectoring technology
Telekom Austria Group's domestic subsidiary A1 has teamed with Alcatel-Lucent to become the first network provider worldwide to serve commercial customers with the latest vectoring technology across its Giga-Network. Phase one of the technology roll-out will be launched in Korneuburg in Lower Austria, with a comprehensive nationwide roll-out planned for second-half 2012. This noise-cancelling vectoring technology is able to significantly boost data transmission speeds over conventional copper networks by minimising the impact of interference or "crosstalk" between the parallel running lines within a cable. This will allow A1 to meeting the ever increasing demand for broadband by exploiting the untapped potential of copper lines. As a result, the existing A1 copper network will now be able to achieve data transmission speeds of up to 100 and 50 Mbps at distances of up to 300 mt and 800 mt respectively. Following the initial test phase in Korneuburg, the technology will be made available in all main Austrian cities with a FTTC network, before a roll-out to cover all the remaining areas of the A1 Giga-Network.
