Acer Q1 revenues fall 14.3%
Acer announced first-quarter revenues of TWD 127.8 billion (USD 4.34 billion ), down 14.3 percent from the fourth quarter. Acer said results were affected by exchange rates, with sales in dollars, where it realises most of its PC shipments, down only 11.5 percent. The company earlier warned for an around 10 percent sequential revenue decline, due to weak PC sales. Operating income reached TWD 1.93 billion, giving a margin of 1.51 percent, while net profit was TWD 1.19 billion or TWD 0.45 per share.

Acer creates Touch division for mobiles, names new president

Acer announced a major reorganisation of its business, effectively splitting the company into two divisions, for mobile devices and PCs. The move comes as the company issued another sales warning, saying it expects its PC shipments in the second quarter to fall by around 10 percent from the previous quarter. This follows a 10 percent sequential decline already in Q1. Acer warns of weak PC sales in Q1

Acer warned that its first-quarter revenue from PCs is expected to fall short of expectations, due to weaker demand in Western Europe and the US. The company estimates a revenue decline of around 10 percent from the fourth quarter 2010. For Q2 2011, Acer expects its PC shipments flat over Q1. Acer started shipping tablet PCs in March, and will launch several new models in Q2 to ramp up the unit shipments, it said.
