Acer revenues up 8.3% for Q2
Acer announced its preliminary results for the second quarter, showing revenues up 8.3 percent year-over-year to TWD 110.6 billion. Operating income reached TWD 433 million, and net profit totaled TWD 56 million. Profits were impacted by a one-time tax settlement of TWD 410 million in Europe. In the first half of 2012 Acer's revenue was TWD 233.6 billion, down 2.7 percent from the previous year. Operating profit was TWD 570 million, and net profit totaled TWD 387 million. Acer expects Q3 revenues to rebound after the launch of Microsoft Windows 8.

Acer announced preliminary third-quarter results showing revenues of TWD 104.4 billion (USD 3.6 billion), down 5.6 percent quarter-on-quarter and 11.4 percent lower year-on-year. Acer announces Liquid Z110 Duo smartphone

Acer has announced the Acer Liquid Z110 Duo, an Android phone that supports two Sim cards and features a 3.5-in screen, a 1GHz processor, 4GB microSD card and video camera. It will sell for EUR 99 without a subscription, when it is released before the end of October in its first European market, France. The Liquid Z110 Duo will be followed by a single-Sim version. Both will come in black or white.

Acer launches Liquid Gallant Duo smartphone in France

Acer has launched the Liquid Gallant Duo HDSPA phone in France at the Cdiscount website and TelAndCom stores for EUR 179. Available in black or white, the dual-Sim smartphone runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and features a 4.3-inch touchscreen, 5 MP flash camera, 1GHz processor, 1 GB of RAM and 4 GB of memory, extendible by microSD card. Acer announced that the single-Sim version of the same phone, the Liquid Gallant, will become available in September.

Acer questions Microsoft move into hardware

JT Wang, chairman and CEO of Acer, said Microsoft's decision to move into the PC hardware business with the launch of its Surface tablets in October will be negative for the industry. Taiwan based electronics vendor Acer is approaching Chinese operators to promote its smartphones in China. The company is targeting the medium- to high-end segment with prices ranging between CNY 1,500 to 3,000, The Digitimes reports. Worldwide PC market flat in Q2

Worldwide PC shipments totaled 87.5 million units in the second quarter, a decline of 0.1 percent from the second quarter of 2011, according to a study by Gartner. Acer to offer Android 4.0 tablet for less than USD 200

Acer is preparing to launch a 7-inch, Android 4.0 tablet in the third quarter for less than USD 200, the Verge reports.
