Airtel to consolidate India, Africa operations - report
Bharti Airtel is planning a restructure by combining its Indian and African businesses into a single business entity under a global CEO, reports The Economic Times. Manoj Kohli, joint MD of Airtel and CEO of its African operations, could be the favourite to lead the combined business in the new organisational structure that is likely to be in place by first-half 2013. The company is understood to be considering promoting Gopal Vittal, who joined Airtel earlier this year as director (special projects), to a more prominent role. Sources familiar with the the matter indicated that Vittal could head either its Indian or African operations, with Sanjay Kapoor, the current CEO of India and South Asia, heading the other territory. Currently, both Kohli and Kapoor report to Bharti Airtel chairman Sunil Mittal. Under the new structure, the chief executives of India and Africa would report to the new global CEO. Company executives confirmed Airtel was working with consultants and headhunters to extend its 'One Airtel' concept to all territories.
