Airtel's quarterly revenues climb nearly 7% on 81% mobile data traffic growth
Indian mobile operator Bharti Airtel posted revenues of INR 2.11 trillion for the quarter ended 30 September, which represents an increase of 6.9 percent year-on-year. Mobile data traffic reached 4,661 PBs in the quarter, up 81 percent year-on-year. India revenues for the quarter reached INR 153.61 billion, up 5.7 percent in the period, while India mobile revenues jumped 7.1 percent year-on-year. Mobile data traffic has nearly doubled to 4,497 PBs in the quarter as compared to 2,478 PBs in the corresponding quarter last year. 

The number of 4G data customers jumped 56.9 percent to 103.1 million at 30 September 2019, from 65.7 million in the corresponding quarter of 2018. 

EBITDA rose 40.9 percent to INR 89.36 billion, with EBITDA margin up 10.8 percentage points to 42.3 percent in the quarter ended 30 September 2019. Net loss before exceptional items for the quarter amounted to INR 11.23 billion, while net loss after exceptional items for the quarter reached INR 230.4 billion.

Bharti Airtel’s total customer base stands at 411 million across 16 countries. Africa revenues up 12.6 percent year-on-year. India EBITDA margin reached 41.2 percent, up 12.7 percentage points year-on-year, while Africa EBITDA margin stood at 44 percent at 30 September, up 5.1 percentage points year-on-year. Total capex spend for the quarter reached INR 37.90 billion.
