Alcatel-Lucent posts Q2 profit on sales up 2.4%

Alcatel-Lucent reported second-quarter revenues of EUR 3.903 billion, up 2.4 percent from a year earlier. At constant currency rates, sales improved 10.4 percent year-over-year. The network equipment maker generated an adjusted operating profit of EUR 108 million, versus a loss of EUR 45 million a year earlier, giving it a margin of 2.8 percent. Net profit was EUR 43 million or 2 cents a share, versus a loss of EUR 184 million or 8 cents a share a year ago. The company reiterated its outlook for the full year, to grow faster than its addressable market and reach an adjusted operating margin over 5 percent. In Q2, the main Networks division led growth, increasing sales 7.4 percent to EUR 2.475 billion. IP revenues grew almost 28 percent to EUR 406 million, supported by IP/MPLS routers, and optics sales were up 3.7 percent to EUR 645 million, on submarine, WDM and microwave growth. The Wireless unit grew by 5.7 percent to EUR 1.08 billion in sales, driven by growth in the CDMA business in the Americas, while the Wireline unit was down 2.5 percent to EUR 357 million due to negative currency effects and weaker legacy products. At the Applications division, sales fell 0.6 percent to EUR 486 million, as growth in network apps was offset by a weaker enterprise market. Finally in Services, Alcatel-Lucent saw a 1.4 percent drop in revenue to EUR 871 million, but on a constant currency basis, grew sales 2.9 percent from a year earlier.
