Alibaba launches TBO movie streaming service in China

Alibaba has introduced a movie streaming service in China. Dubbed 'Tmall Box Office' (TBO), the platform provides third-party and in-house produced content, as well as domestic and foreign films and TV shows through a partnership with Lionsgate, South China Morning Post reports. The TBO service is already available to users of Alibaba smart TVs and STBs, following an update pushed to those devices on 1 September, writes Tech in Asia. TBO subscribers will be charged CNY 39 (approximately USD 6) per month for unlimited viewing, or CNY 365 (USD 57) for 12-month access. Subscribers can also pay for the TBO service via their smartphone, using the Alipay wallet service.
