Alibaba launches Tmall Genie smart speaker
Alibaba has introduced its ‘Tmall Genie’ smart speaker in China. The device will be available for a recommended retail price of CNY 499 (approximately USD 73.4), starting 8 August, DigiTimes reports. 

Leveraging its built-in voiceprint recognition software, Tmall Genie will be able to verify up to six users. Tmall Genie users will be able to access voice-command applications to listen to music, set up dates and reminders, book tickets and meals, shop online, call a taxi, or check the weather forecast.

Tmall Genie features MediaTek’s MT8516 1.3GHz quad-core processor supporting the voice-activated assistant AliGenie, and a TDM (time division multiplexing) microphone supporting up to right channels with 2-channel PDM (pulse density modulation) digital microphone interface.

Alibaba releases three new Tmall Genie speakers

Alibaba's AI research unit launched three new iterations of its Tmall Genie smart speaker, including a voice-controlled smart mirror tailored to beauty consumers. Other new products are the 'Tmall Genie CC' monitor and an in-vehicle smart speaker created in collaboration with Amap, Alibaba Group's navigation-products provider. The initial smart speaker was released in July 2017.
