Alibaba to acquire UCWeb
Chinese internet company Alibaba will acquire mobile Internet software and services provider UCWeb, Xinhua reports. The value of the acquisition was not revealed, according to the report. Alibaba currently owns 66 percent of UCWeb's stock. UCWeb's UC Browser is a mobile browser which currently has 5 million users. Founded in 2004, the UCWeb is one of China's earliest internet firms specialized in mobile services.

Alibaba takes 20% in 21st Century Media

An investment group led by Chinese e-commerce company Alibaba Group has invested CNY 500 million in Chinese media group 21st Century Media, Marbridge Daily reports, citing an industry insider. According to the report, Alibaba holds a 20 percent stake in the post-diluted share capital of the company. China National Building Material Group and two other companies participated in investment. 21st Century Media is a media group focused on finance and economics.

Chinese e-commerce group Alibaba has agreed to acquire a 50 percent stake in Guangzhou's top-rated Evergrande football club for CNY 1.2 bilion, the Financial Times reported, noting the company has spent more than USD 6 billion over the past 12 months in its pursuit of diversification. Chinese e-commerce group Alibaba plans to acquire a 10.35 percent stake in Singapore Post (SingPost) with an estimated investment of USD 249 million, Xinhua reports. Chinese e-commerce group Alibaba doubled its net profit in the fourth quarter of 2013, to USD 1.349 billion from USD 642 million a year earlier.
