Alice will focus on IPTV in 2011, plans hybrid set-top box

Telefonica O2 Germany subsidiary Alice will focus on its IPTV service in 2011, according to Alice's head of content IPTV and VoD Torsten Peters cited by teltarif.de. Alice will add the two missing large film studios to its Video on Demand services during 2011 and plans to offer a hybrid set-top box before the year end, offering classic TV services via cable or satellite and VoD via IP, similar to the hybrid set-top box that Vodafone Germany plans to launch. Peters said that Alice has won almost 70,000 new IPTV customers during the past month. He also said that Alice is not interested in acquiring broadcast rights for sports, but there is interest to offer its customers access to live sports via other channels like webportals. At the same time, Alice IPTV platform will be expanded and made available for new and existing O2 DSL customers.
