Almost one-third of Dutch TV connections are digital
The total number of Dutch TV connections stabilised at 7.027 million connections at the end of the second quarter of 2007, with the number of digital TV connections growing by 4.2 percent to 2.2 million, according to Telecompaper's quarterly update on the Dutch TV market. The cable network operators continue to dominate the Dutch TV landscape with a share of 87.5 percent on the entire TV market, while on the digital TV market, cable's market share grew by 1.2 percent during the quarter to 60.2 percent. The quarterly growth on the Dutch digital TV market for the third and fourth quarter of this year is expected to be around 10 percent, driven by cable network operators Delta and Casema, and KPN's increased effort to win customers for its Digitenne service and its IPTV service 'Interactieve TV, leading to an estimated 2.6 million digital TV customers at the end of this year. UPC isl the largest TV provider with 2.189 million customers as of 30 June 2007. Its number of digital TV customers increased by 1.4 percent to 517,700. The second-largest TV provider in the Netherlands is @home with a market share of 24.4 percent, 0.4 points lower than during the first quarter. On the digital TV market, however, @home saw its market share grow by 1 percentage point during the quarter to 18 percent, with 398,000 digital TV customers on 30 June. KPN saw its digital TV customer base pass the 300,000 user- mark during the quarter, ending it with 304,400 digital TV customers.
