Cable operator Altice USA has launched its Altice Mobile service, starting at the low price of USD 20 per month for customers of its Suddenlink and Optimum cable services.
The company offers just one plan, with unlimited data, texts and calls nationwide, unlimited mobile hotspot use, unlimited international calls and texts to more than 35 countries, including Canada and Mexico, and unlimited roaming while traveling abroad in those same countries.
Altice said heavy data users may be subject to speed restrictions. Its prices also exclude all taxes, regulatory fees and surcharges.
Altice promises Optimum and Suddenlink customers the USD 20 per line per month ‘price for life’. Altice Mobile is also available to non-Optimum and Suddenlink customers who live in or near the company’s 21-state footprint, including throughout New York City, for USD 30 per line per month.
Altice claims customers can save up to USD 600 per year with its mobile service, compared to the average cost of USD 70 per month for an unlimited plan in the US. Customers can sign up for up to five mobile lines per household, all at the same price.
The service is based on wholesale agreements with AT&T and Sprint, as well as Altice's own backhaul infrastructure and promises 99 percent nationwide LTE coverage. Customers receive all-online customer service and must bring their own device to the mobile service. Suddenlink and Optimum customers can also buy an iPhone at Altice's shops on an installment contract.
