Amazon introduces Amazon Coins virtual currency
Amazon has announced Amazon Coins, a new virtual currency for purchasing apps, games and in-app items on Kindle Fire. Amazon Coins offers app and game developers a new opportunity to drive traffic, downloads and increase monetisation. Amazon Coins will launch in the US in May and Amazon intends to offer customers tens of millions of dollars worth of free Amazon Coins to spend in the Amazon Appstore upon launch. Amazon also plans to make it easy for customers to buy additional Amazon Coins using their Amazon accounts. Amazon Appstore developers will earn their standard 70 percent revenue share when customers make a purchase using Amazon Coins. Developers not already in the Amazon Appstore will have to have their apps submitted and approved by 25 April for access to Amazon Coins once launched.

Amazon expands Cloud Player to Ford vehicles

Amazon has announced its Cloud Player is available in Ford SYNC Applink-equipped vehicles. Ford owners can now wirelessly connect the Amazon MP3 app on their Android smartphone to the SYNC connectivity system to access their entire Cloud Player music library in their car using voice commands or audio controls. Ford Applink-equipped vehicles include the 2013 Ford Fiesta, Mustang, Focus, E-Series, C-MAX Hybrid, Expedition, Fusion, F-150 and Super Duty models.

CBS, Amazon enter content licensing agreement

CBS and Amazon.com have announced a content licensing agreement for the new CBS television series "Under the Dome," establishing an in-season, online subscription-video-on-demand (SVOD) window for the show on Amazon's Prime Instant Video service. Amazon has announced a content licensing agreement with PBS Distribution that will make Prime Instant Video the exclusive subscription home for streaming the Carnival/Masterpiece co-production 'Downtown Abbey'.
