Amazon launches Prime Video Store in Netherlands

Amazon has opened a Prime Video Store in the Netherlands, for customers to rent or buy films online and through the Prime Video app. The storefront offers titles from local and international studios, including Disney, Warner Bros., Universal, Sony, Paramount, Lionsgate, Dutch FilmWorks, WW Entertainment and Belga Film. 

The video store is available to anyone, separate from its Prime Video subscription streaming service. The store is also available in France, Italy, Spain, Canada, Australia and Mexico.

SVOD market contracts after initial lockdown leads to growth spurt

With new lockdown measures taking effect to combat a second wave of coronavirus infections, we look here at the impact of the first lockdown on SVOD subscriptions. Figures from Telecompaper's Consumer Insights panel show the total number of subscribers in the Netherlands rose to over 6 million in April. Once the restrictions were relaxed a couple months later, the number fell by 7 percent.

Amazon has started offering films to rent or purchase over its Amazon Prime Video platform in the Netherlands. Rentals cost from EUR 1.99 to 3.99, and downloads start at EUR 3.99. Films in ultra HD are also available, with the selection updated regularly.

Dutch broadcaster Talpa Netwerk has made its apps Kijk and Juke available on the Amazon App Store. As a result, people with an Amazon Fire TV or media box can access the TV and music content, reports Broadcast Magazine.

Hulu starts testing Watch Party feature

Hulu began testing a Watch Party feature that'll allow subscribers to simultaneously watch a show or movie while hanging out in a group chat room, according to the Verge.com. The feature began launching on 28 May, but it's exclusive to web users subscribed to Hulu's ad-free plan. Hulu says "thousands of movies and shows" support watch parties.

As more people were forced to stay at home from late March due to coronavirus restrictions, many turned to SVOD services for entertainment.

Amazon has started offering its Prime subscription service in the Netherlands, for EUR 2.99 per month. An initial 30-day free trial is available. Prime includes free delivery of thousands of products on the e-commerce platform, free games and in-game content on Twitch Prime, unlimited cloud storage in Amazon Photos and access to entertainment on Prime Video.
