Amazon preparing ad-based free video streaming service - report
Amazon is looking to launch another streaming video service, one that would be free and ad-supported, and is talking with TV networks, movie studios and other media companies about programming, Adage reported, citing sources familiar with the plans. In order to bring advertisers and marketers on board, Amazon is considering sharing audience information and ad revenue data, and even linking payments for content to the number of hours people watch it, executives familiar with the conversations say.

"Amazon is talking about giving content creators their own channels, and sharing ad revenue in exchange for a set number of hours of content each week," an executive said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Amazon Prime subscribers pay USD 99 per year for mainly ad-free access to movies, TV shows, sports, and original Amazon productions, plus free shipping on all orders. A free service could also serve to hook in more Prime customers. The ad-supported streaming service would feature back catalogues of TV and movie studios, with children's programming, lifestyle, travel, cooking and other shows that are a good fit for an e-commerce platform.

Amazon did not provide any comment.
