Amazon announced that it will lease and open a new corporate office, called Principal Place, in the London East End borough of Shoreditch in 2017. The office will give Amazon a total capacity for over 5,000 London employees as it continues to invest, expand and create new jobs in the UK. Amazon currently employs around 1,700 employees at offices around the country.
The company announced that all corporate employees will be located in London by the summer of 2015 across three offices within the capital. Amazon also said it would create thousands of additional permanent roles at its UK fulfilment and customer service centres. Principal Place is a mixed-use development with a 600,000 sq ft, 15 storey office building and an adjacent residential tower. It includes public piazza and events space, plus 20,000 sq ft of retail. Construction will commence later this month and Amazon will take residence in 431,000 sq ft of office space in 2017, following the development’s completion in 2016. Amazon currently has two other London offices.
