Amdocs, Netcracker, Nokia, Oracle join TM Forum's Open Digital Architecture project

TM Forum said that Amdocs, Netcracker Technologies, Nokia and Oracle will be adopting its Open Digital Architecture, a new way to build software for the telecom sector, replacing traditional OSS/BSS with a modular, cloud-based and open platform that can be orchestrated using AI. The system means companies can invest in IT for new and differentiated services instead of customisation and integration, the group said.

BT, Deutsche Telekom, Telefonica and Telenor are also among 11 new signatories to TM Forum’s Open API and Open Digital Architecture Manifesto. This means that 30 organisations are now committed to moving from legacy OSS/BSS to cloud-native software components, including Chunghwa Telecom, Videotron and Globe.

The Open Digital Architecture project wants to move to standardized plug-and-play components, data model and Open APIs. According to a recent TM Forum report, communication service providers spend about USD 90 billion each year on IT. The process of selecting and procuring software alone costs USD 1 billion per year.
