America Movil inaugurates AMX-1 cable in Colombia
America Movil has inaugurated its undersea fibre-optic cable system AMX-1 in Colombia. The submarine fibre-optic network has an extension of 17,800 km . The network has 11 landing points in seven countries. They include Miami and Jacksonville (US), Barranquilla and Cartagena (Colombia), Fortaleza, Salvador and Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Puerto Plata (Dominican Republic), Cancun (Mexico), San Juan (Puerto Rico), and Puerto Barrios (Guatemala). Colombia is connected to Arcos-1, Pan-Am, CFX-1, Maya-1, SAM-1, AMX-1, Globenet, PCCS and SAC-LAN undersea fibre-optic cable systems.

The operator inaugurated the USD 15 million, 727km extension at an event attended by president Ivan Duque and ICT minister Carmen Ligia Valderrama Rojas, with the company's CEO saying it will bring unprecedented benefits to the inhabitants of the island and the tourism, trade, health, education and government sectors.

C&W Networks, the wholesale arm of telecoms provider CWC, has announced that Alcatel-Lucent Submarine Networks (ASN) has completed the commissioning of the Pacific Caribbean Cable System (PCCS). The 6,000 km submarine cable connects Ecuador, Panama, Colombia, Aruba, Curacao, Tortola in the British Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, terminating in Jacksonville, Florida.
