AOL revenues drop 32 percent in Q4
AOL reported fourth-quarter quarter revenues of USD 1.3 billion, down 32 percent from a year earluer due to the continued loss of subscription customers. The internet company lost 740,000 US subscribers during the quarter for a total 9.3 million. Operating profit dropped 70 percent to USD 274 million, due to the sale of the internet access business in the UK and France last year which generated a gain of USD 769 million. Adjutsed OIBDA rose to USD 381 million from USD 295 million a year ago. Time Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes said in a conference call on results that he plans to split off AOL's itnernet access business from its advertising and web services activities, in order to better focus the two. The move "should significantly increase AOL's strategic options", he said. A report in the Wall Street Journal suggested Time Warner could be prepaing a sale of one or both of the activities.
