
Internet traffic will grow to three times its current volume by 2020. More than half of the world’s population (52%) will be online by the end of the decade, according to the Cisco Visual Networking Index. The report also shows that Asia Pacific, home to the largest population of internet users, will continue leading the mass adoption of connected devices and online behavior.
Asia Pacific is expected to account for over 53 percent (2.2 billion) of the global internet population by 2020. The report further indicates that IoT will take a giant leap forward as M2M will make up 45 percent of the total number of devices and connections, with Connected Home and Connected Work leading the way.
Smartphones are forecast to eliminate the PC dominance. Smartphones will account for 44 percent of all internet traffic while PCs traffic will continue to fall to 31 percent by 2020. Video will account for 81 percent of all internet traffic by the end of the period.
