Apple announces executive management changes

Apple has made executive management changes which it says will encourage even more collaboration between the company's hardware, software and services teams. As part of these changes, Jony Ive, Bob Mansfield, Eddy Cue and Craig Federighi will add more responsibilities to their roles. Apple's Scott Forstall will be leaving the company next year and will serve as an advisor to CEO Tim Cook in the interim. The former head of iOS software, Forstall was asked to leave the company after he refused to sign his name to a letter apologizing for shortcomings in Apple's new mapping service, people familiar with the matter told the Wall Street Journal. Under the new appointments, Federighi will lead both iOS and OS X. Ive will provide leadership and direction for Human Interface (HI) across the company, in addition to his role as the leader of industrial design. Cue will take on the additional responsibility of Siri and Maps, placing all online services in one group. Mansfield will lead a new group, technologies, which combines all of Apple's mobile teams across the company in one organisation. This organisation will also include the semiconductor teams. Retail director John Browett is also leaving Apple. A search for a new head of retail is underway and in the interim, the retail team will report directly to Cook.
