Apple has finally agreed to allow messaging provider Telegram to update its app on iOS following a six-week block. “Amazing news – Apple has just successfully reviewed our latest update for Telegram iOS, and we were able to ship a new version with long awaited fixes and improvements to the AppStore,” confirmed Telegram CEO Pavel Durov in a blog post. The new version of the app – Telegram 4.8.2 – complies with GDRP rules and allows users to delete synced contacts.
Durov previously complained that Apple has been preventing Telegram from updating its iOS applications globally ever since the Russian authorities ordered Apple to remove Telegram from the App Store. Russia banned Telegram on its territory in April because the messaging provider refused to hand over decryption keys for all user communications to Russia’s security agencies.
