Apple, Google to pay VAT in Russia

Around 13 companies have registered with the Russian Federal Tax Agency in order to pay VAT on the sale of virtual products in Russia, reports Comnews.ru. The list includes Apple Distribution International, Google Commerce, Microsoft Ireland, Netflix International and Wargaming Group.

Russia adopted the law on the issue in summer of 2016.

Google wins case over EUR 1.1 bln tax bill in France

The Paris administrative court annulled a EUR 1.1 billion tax adjustment imposed on Google by France's tax authorities for the 2005-2010 period, reports Reuters. The court ruled that Google Ireland Limited does not have a "permanent establishment" in the country or sufficient taxable presence to justify the back payments demanded by the French authorities for unpaid corporate and value-added taxes.

Facebook to start paying VAT in Russia

Facebook has registered at the Russian state tax agency in order to pay VAT in Russia on its online revenues, reports Prime. In 2016, the Russian parliament adopted a law imposing the tax on numerous online services, including software, audio and music services, TV and telecommunications services.

Russia wants to raise taxes on foreign tech companies

Russia's new government internet advisor German Klimenko is pushing to raise taxes on US companies such as Google, Apple and Microsoft, in order to level the playhing field for Russian competitors such as Yandex and Mail.ru. In an interview with Bloomberg, Klimenko isaid he was putting his support behind a bill that would apply an 18 percent value-added tax to the total revenues that Google, Apple and other foreign companies earn each year in Russia, estimated at around RUB 300 billion (USD 3.9 billion).
