Apple has announced a free repair programme for some of its smartwatches that have been shown to develop a crack in the screen. The company said the Apple Watch Series 2 and 3 aluminium models had developed a crack around the rounded edge of the screen "under very rare circumstances", and it would offer a free repair for customers experiencing such problems.
Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider will replace the screen on eligible Apple Watch units that exhibit this type of crack. The models affected are the Apple Watch Series 2 and 3 in aluminium as well as the Nike versions of these watches. The free repair offer is valid for three years from the purchase date or one year from the start of the offer, whichever is longer, and does not extend the warranty period of the devices.
