Apple sells over 17 mln iPhones, 11 mln iPads in Q4
Apple sold 17.07 million iPhones in its fiscal fourth quarter to 24 September, up 21 percent from a year earlier. The company also grew iPad sales by 166 percent to 11.12 million, and increased Mac unit sales by 26 percent to 4.89 million. iPod sales were lower, down 27 percent to 6.62 million. The company posted quarterly revenue of USD 28.27 billion, up from USD 20.34 billion a year ago, and net profit rose to USD 6.62 billion, or USD 7.05 per diluted share, from USD 4.31 billion, or USD 4.64 per share, in the year-ago quarter. The gross margin improved to 40.3 percent compared to 36.9 percent a year earlier, and the company generated USD 5.4 billion in cash in the quarter. For fiscal Q1, Apple forecast revenue of about USD 37 billion and EPS around USD 9.30.

Samsung Electronics reported record sales and operating profit at its telecom division in the third quarter, thanks to growing demand for the company's smartphones.
