The Apple Watch accounted for two-thirds of all smartwatch shipments in 2015, shifting a total of over 12 million units, according to a report from Canalys. Strong holiday season sales helped Apple add over five million shipments in the fourth quarter alone, said the report, with Samsung returning to second place in the final quarter thanks to the improved design of the Gear S2. Pebble came third and Huawei came fourth, establishing itself as the leading Android Wear vendor.
Basic bands exceeded 37 million shipments for the year, comfortably led by Fitbit and followed by Xiaomi, which shipped 12 million Mi Bands in 2015. The report added that strong holiday shipments for Fitbit, Apple and Garmin drove growth of over 60 percent sequentially for all wearable bands.
