Asus combines phone and tablet with the Padfone

Asus unveiled a range of new mobile computing devices at the Computex trade show in Taiwan, including a new combined tablet and smartphone called the Padfone. The Padfone is a touch tablet PC with a slot on the back where the smartphone slides in for charging. The two devices shares storage and a Sim card, and users can move seamlessly between applications across the devices. Also on display on Computex is the fourth tablet from the Asus. After the recently announced Eee Pad Transformer, Eee Pad Slider and Eee Slate, the Eee Pad MeMO 3D is a 7-inch Android that comes with a stylus for navigation and supports glasses-free 3D display. Asus also introduced the latest Eee PC range, X101, which will come with a choice of the MeeGo or Windows 7 operating systems and both solid state and mechanical hard drive storage configurations. In the computer market, Asus unveiled the UX Series, developed in cooperation with Intel. These ultra-thin portables, measuring 17mm at the thickest point, have an aluminium alloy shell and come with an oversized keyboard and smartphone-like touchpad. The UX Series comes with the latest 2nd generation Intel Core mobile processors up to the i7, SATA 6Gbps solid-state drives and the Instant On feature, which starts the notebook in seconds.
