
Asus unveils tablet PC range at CES

Asus announced a range of tablet PCs at the CES in Las Vegas. The Eee Pad Slider, Eee Pad Transformer, Eee Pad MeMO and Eee Slate EP121 are available with three screen sizes, and a choice of either Windows 7 Home Premium or Google Android operating systems. The Eee Pad Slider comes with a 10.1-inch IPS touch-screen as well as slide-out qwerty keyboard. Powered by the Nvidia Tegra 2 mobile processor with a dual-core CPU and Nvidia GeForce GPU, the device runs Android 3.0 and includes built-in digital cameras on the front (1.2MP) and rear (5MP) for video chat and digital photography and onboard 3G access. The lightweight Eee Pad Transformer also comes with a 10.1-inch capacitive touch-screen, Android 3.0 and Nvidia Tegra 2 chipset. A docking station can turn the device into a full computer with qwerty keyboard and extend battery life up to 16 hours. It also comes with front (1.2MP) and rear (5MP) digital cameras as well as a mini-HDMI port. The Eee Pad MeMO is a smaller pad with 7.1-inch capacitive touch-screen, stylus pen and Qualcomm Snapdragon mobile processor. It also runs Android 3.0 and comes with a micro HDMI port. Finally, the Eee Slate EP121 is a Windows 7 device with an Intel Core i5 dual-core processor. The Eee Slate features a 12.1-inch LED-backlit display with 1280 x 800 resolution and a wide 178-degree viewing angle. The on-screen keyboard is complimented by support for an external Bluetooth keyboard. The Eee Slate is available with 32GB or 64GB of SSD storage (expandable via SDXC), and up to 4GB of DDR3 RAM. All models have 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, a 2-megapixel camera, plus two USB 2.0 ports and a mini-HDMI port. No details on pricing and availability of the new devices were released.
