AT&T allowed to buy Mexico's Iusacell
Mexican telecoms services regulator Ifetel has authorized US operator AT&T to acquire mobile operator Iusacell with unspecified conditions. The watchdog said it set conditions on the deal to avoid risks to the process of competition in the local mobile telephony market. Last month, the US company reached an agreement with Grupo Salinas to acquire Iusacell for USD 2.5 billion. Under the terms of the agreement, AT&T acquired all of Iusacell's mobile properties, including licences, network assets, retail stores and approximately 8.6 million mobile subscribers.

AT&T has appointed F. Thaddeus Arroyo to lead Iusacell as its chief executive officer. Arroyo, a nineteen-year AT&T veteran, will lead a Mexico City-based team dedicated to a successful transition for Iusacell customers and employees. Iusacell's former CEO Adrian Steckel will assist Arroyo with the integration of Iusacell into AT&T.

AT&T has closed its USD 2.5 billion acquisition of Mexican wireless provider Iusacell from Grupo Salinas. AT&T acquired all of Iusacell's wireless properties, including licenses, network assets, retail stores and approximately 9.2 million subscribers. The Iusacell wireless network currently covers about 70 percent of Mexico's approximately 120 million citizens.

Mexican telecoms services regulator Ifetel has authorized Mexico's Salinas Group to purchase a 50 percent stake in mobile operator Iusacell from broadcasting group Televisa, Signals reports.
