
AT&T confirms shutdown of 2G network

AT&T has confirmed the shutdown of its GSM network from 01 January, freeing up spectrum for LTE and 5G services. AT&T said it's 3G and 4G networks cover 99 percent of the population, and it has worked for four years to transition customers with 2G phones to the newer networks, offering discounts and free devices in some cases. The operator plans to reposition the 2G spectrum in the coming months for LTE use.
