AT&T Fiber expands 2Gbps, 5Gbps speed tiers to over 70 metro areas

AT&T Fiber said it started providing symmetrical 2 Gbps and 5 Gbps speed tiers to nearly 5.2 million customer locations in parts of more than 70 metro areas, such as LA, Atlanta and Dallas.

AT&T will continue bringing multi-gig technology across its exiting fibre footprint throughout 2022, and the operator aims to cover 30 million customer locations by year-end 2025 as part of its future expansion efforts. 

It also started rolling out "straightforward" pricing across its consumer AT&T Fiber portfolio. For new customers, this means no equipment fees, no annual contract, no data caps and no price increase at 12 months, all at no additional cost, the company said. 

Pricing 

AT&T Fiber 2 Gig is priced at USD 110 per month plus taxes, and business customers pay USD 225 per month. AT&T Fiber 5 Gig is USD 180 per month, or USD 395 for businesses. All plans include next-generation Wi-Fi technology capable of delivering maximum speed and connectivity. At the same time, HBO Max and AT&T ActiveArmor internet security are included at no additional charge.

AT&T Fiber said over 7 million customer locations across the company's 21-state footprint can now access speeds of up to 5 Gbps, in over 100 metro areas. The operator's target is to cover 30 million customer locations with its fibre network by the end of 2025. As part of the latest expansion efforts, the company will bring AT&T Fiber to seven new metro areas in Texas, Oklahoma and Ohio by the end of this year.

AT&T sees lower earnings, cash flow in 2022 on plans for higher capex, media divestments

AT&T reported a small increase in underlying revenues in the fourth quarter and full year 2021, as growth at its mobile business and a recovery at Warner Media helped offset the divestment of its pay-TV businesses last year. The company aims for a low single-digit increase in underlying revenues in 2022, but adjusted earnings and free cash flow will be lower than in 2021, as it steps up investment and sells off more businesses.

Ziply Fiber launches up to 5 Gbps fibre broadband in Northwest states

Ziply Fiber announced it began offering residential fibre internet service to nearly 170,000 addresses in 60 cities and towns across Washington, Oregon and Idaho. This follows an initial rollout in Kirkland, Washington in December and "outstanding" customer feedback, the operator said.

AT&T says fibre roll-out back on track after supply-chain problems

AT&T said it is on track to meet its reduced target for around 2.5 million new homes passed by its FTTH network this year. While the US operator warned earlier this year that supply chain problems were slowing the network build, CFO Pascal Desroches told a recent investors conference that the issues had been addressed. The operator still expects to reach 30 million premises passed by the end of 2025.
