AT&T to increase DirecTV, U-Verse TV prices in January

AT&T has announced new price increases for its pay-TV customers under the DirecTV and U-verse brands. Monthly prices will go up by USD 1-8, depending on the package, from 19 Janaury 2020, Deadline reports. 

The new prices also apply to existing customers. AT&T said the higher prices are needed to cover rising programming costs.

The operator already increased prices for customers on its OTT streaming services in the autumn. AT&T is trying to offset a significant drop in TV customers with a focus on more higher value subscribers and fewer discounts and promotions. The company said recently that it thinks the loss of over 1.3 million TV customers in Q3 was the peak, and results should improve going forward.

AT&T has started talks on selling its satellite TV business DirecTV, the Wall Street Journal reports. The company and its advisers at Goldman Sachs have been in talks with private-equity suitors, and potential bidders include Apollo Global Management and Platinum Equity, people familiar with the matter said.

DirecTV offering dozens of free channels during coronavirus lockdown

AT&T's pay-TV unit DirecTV announced that it's substantially increasing the number of free channels available to Latin American subscribers during coronavirus lockdowns imposed by several countries. In a statement, the company said dozens more channels will be accessible by local subscribers until 31 March, while the Canal Escuela Plus educational channel will be available for a 30-day period.

AT&T meets FY targets, Q4 results lower

AT&T met its debt and cash flow targets for 2019, as well as reporting a small increase of 1.4 percent in adjusted earnings. Results for the fourth quarter showed another loss of over 1 million TV customers, as well as lower revenues at WarnerMedia, as the company ended certain content licensing deals in anticipation of the launch of its own streaming service HBO Max this spring. The company confirmed its three-year targets issued in October.

DirecTV wants to urgently de-orbit its Spaceway-1 satellite out of the geostationary arc due to a battery failure that may cause it to explode, according to SpaceNews.com. DirecTV told the US Federal Communications Commission that it does not have time to deplete the remaining fuel on Spaceway-1 before disposing of it by boosting it 300 kilometers above the geostationary arc.

Nexstar Digital partners with Mediaocean to enable buying of OTT, display, video, linear on Spectra

Nexstar Digital, a wholly owned subsidiary of Nexstar Media Group, entered into a multi-year partnership with Mediaocean and its Connect Partner Program. Over-the-top TV streaming service Vidgo released a streaming package of 60 channels available for USD 39.99 per month at Vidgo.com and across the country at thousands of prepaid wireless stores. AT&T announces new financial growth targets to calm shareholder concerns

AT&T has announced new financial targets for the coming three years, following pressure from shareholders such as Elliott Management to rethink its strategy. The aim is to grow revenues 1-2 percent per year, improve margins through cost savings and divest more assets in order to boost free cash flow and shareholder returns while reducing debt. While two new directors will be appointed in the next two years, AT&T maintained its commitment to Randall Stephenson as CEO, who will stay on through 2020 at least.

AT&T plans to offers its new SVoD service HBO Max free to around 10 million customers when it launches next spring, according to AT&T COO John Stankey. In an interview with Reuters, he said HBO subscribers who also take another AT&T service such as mobile or DirecTV will get HBO Max included free.

AT&T to raise price for AT&T Now by USD 15 per month

AT&T will next month raise prices for its AT&T TV Now streaming service, Variety reported. The Plus package will then go up by USD 15 to USD 65 per month. The telco has started to inform existing subscribers about the price increase, which was also confirmed by a spokesperson, who said that customers can review their plans or make account changes.

AT&T keeps dividend at USD 0.51, reiterates FY guidance for record free cash flow

AT&T said that it will be keeping its upcoming dividend at USD 0.51 per share, payable on 10 October, and that it still expects a record free cash flow for the full year of around USD 28 billion, with a full-year dividend payout ratio in the 50 percent range against 60 percent in 2018. Free cash flow in the first half of the year reached USD 14.7 billion, with a dividend payout ratio of 50.6 percent, down from 77.3 percent the year before.

AT&T COO says DirecTV not for sale

AT&T's chief operating officer defended the company's strategy in the media business and said it doesn't plan to sell its pay-TV operator DirecTV. In an interview, John Stankey told the Wall Street Journal that DirecTV is important to the company's future plans in the streaming market.
