AT&T tops Speedtest mobile data in Q4, Verizon leads in fixed speed

AT&T has again claimed the fastest mobile network speeds in the US, based on Ookla Speedtest data for Q4 2020. The operator achieved the highest median 5G network speeds, at 79.6 Mbps, compared to 71.5 Mbps for T-Mobile/Sprint and 60.4 Mbps for Verizon. 

AT&T said it also maintained the position of fastest overall wireless speeds for a second year and remains the fastest network for iPhones, according to Ookla data. 

In the fixed market, Speedtest data for Q4 shows Verizon was the fastest fixed broadband provider in the US. Cox was a close second, Comcast third, Charter fourth, AT&T Internet fifth and CenturyLink sixth.

T-Mobile, Cox named fastest internet providers in US in Q2

T-Mobile US said it took the top spot for overall speed, lowest latency and highest consistency in Ookla's Q2 Speedtest report for the US. The report also ranked the carrier's 5G network first for download speed, availability and consistency.

Verizon delivered the fastest median download speeds for its mobile services in the second half of 2020 across the US as a whole, according to preliminary data from the latest RootMetrics US State of the Mobile Union report. Median speeds for the company went to 40.0 Mbps, followed by AT&T with 33.8 Mbps and T-Mobile US with 20.1 Mbps.
