AT&T blacks out HBO, Cinemax for Dish, Sling TV users over carriage dispute

Thursday 1 November 2018 | 08:55 CET | News
AT&T has blocked its HBO and Cinemax channels for Dish and Sling TV customers over a carriage dispute. This is the first channel blackout for HBO in its 40 years of operation. AT&T acquired HBO when it bought Time Warner for USD 85.4 million, a transaction that was completed in June. The US Department of Justice has however appealed the approval of the merger, saying it could have a negative impact on the pay-TV market. The DoJ said AT&T could restrict access to Time Warner's channels and content for its own benefit and drive up prices.
