AT&T testing G.fast for possible deployment in MDUs

Thursday 31 March 2016 | 16:18 CET | News
AT&T has started testing G.fast in its labs and is considering using the technology to bring up to 300 Mbps speeds in multi-dwelling units (MDUs) by using existing copper wiring rather than installing new fibre. The approach would involve placing fibre network terminals outside MDUs and serving four to eight units from each terminal. AT&T technology operations president Bill Smith told Light Reading that no field tests have been conducted so far, adding, "We haven't made the call yet on G.fast. Hopefully it turns out to be part of our arsenal."
