According to the survey conducted for Polish data centre leader ATM, more than one half of companies in Poland have had a problem with internet access or energy supply (54 percent), the majority of them in the past six months (52 percent). As a result, 41 percent of firms had to stop operations or limit them substantially. Only in 6 percent of cases did the outage last less than one hour; in 30 percent cases, it went on for one to two days and in 10 percent of cases, longer.
Although 78 percent of managers participating in the survey consider access to data vital, 75 percent of them did had not heard the term 'Business Continuity Management'. It found 64 percent of respondents did not know the term 'back-up office'. The most frequently used security tool in companies is UPS and maintaining data on local servers. A back-up office is used by only 17 percent of the surveyed companies.
The survey was conducted for ATM in September among a group of 300 people responsible for IT security at their companies. These were firms with 50-250 and more than 250 employees.
