The Australian government is proposing changes to the way 3.4 GHz spectrum is licensed to upgrade broadband access and maximise the benefits of 5G. The 3.4 GHz band currently has a mix of licence types that support fixed wireless and 5G mobile broadband. The government is proposing a plan to optimise licensing arrangements to free up spectrum to support the rollout of 5G and upgrade regional access to broadband while still supporting current uses of the band. Interested parties can submit their comments and recommendations on the proposed plan by 20 October.
