Australian govt to release NBN business plan in December
Australian communications minister Stephen Conroy plans to introduce two further National Broadband Network related bills soon. These will establish the future ownership arrangements for NBN Co, its functions, the regulatory environment in which it will operate and how it will interact with its customers in providing improved services to consumers and businesses. Early next year Conroy will also be introducing a further Bill to support the provision of telecommunications services to businesses and households in new developments. Details will be announced 'in the coming weeks', the minister said in a statement. The bill that will see Telstra separate and provides for reforms in the telecommunications industry was passed already on 16 November by the House of Representatives and the government will be seeking passage of this bill through the Senate as soon as possible. Conroy also said the government recently received the NBN Co business plan and said it is currently being examined. Earlier this week senator Ludlam moved a motion to produce the NBN business plan and the government's response to the Implementation Study. The government will not be able to comply with the time frame of this motion but will be releasing the NBN business case in December, the minister said.
