Australia's NBN Co to test Nokia XG-Fast technology
Australia's NBN Co is testing the XG-Fast technology from Nokia, based on G.fast, in order to speed up its copper network. The lab trial will look at the feasibility of the technology to deliver faster speeds over the National Broadband Network (NBN).

With the NBN based already around a FTTN infrastructure, the Nokia technology could deliver multi-gigabit speeds at a cheaper price point, the company said. Previous XG-Fast lab trials using standard copper cable in Germany have demonstrated aggregate data transmission rates exceeding 8Gbps over a 50m line length. A trial by BT in the UK delivered aggregate speeds of 5.6Gbps over 35m, Nokia said.
