Turkish operator Avea has awarded contracts to Ericsson, Huawei and ZTE to roll out its 3G network. Ericsson will cover Marmara and Aegean region, Huawei has Middle Anatolia and the Mediterranean Region and ZTE covers Eastern, Northeastern and Southeastern Anatolia. Separately Ericsson announced that it was awarded a four-year contract for a HSPA-enabled network. Additionally, Ericsson will expand and upgrade the speed and capacity of Avea's existing GSM network. Ericsson will also be responsible for network deployment, systems integration and support including spare-parts management. Deployment and integration work has already started.
