Average Dutch download speed improves to 16 Mbps
Dutch broadband users achieved an average download speed of 16.0Mbps in the third quarter of 2011, up from 14.2Mbps a year earlier, according to Telecompaper's latest research. Over the same period the average download speed offered by Dutch ISPs improved from 24.5 Mbps to 27.5 Mbps. As a result, broadband users received an average 58 percent of the speed advertised by ISPs. This actual/offered ratio for Dutch broadband connections was unchanged compared to the third quarter of 2010. Almost all Dutch broadband users (95%) had a subscription with an offered download speed of 6 Mbps or more in the third quarter of 2011, up from 88 percent a year earlier. The study also found that fibre offers the highest average actual speed with 41.3 Mbps, followed by cable operators Ziggo and UPC. Of all providers excluding fibre, UPC offers the best actual/offered ratio for the 12-24 Mbps, 24-48 Mbps, 48-100 Mbps and 100 Mbps+ segments, while Ziggo offers the best actual/offered ratio for the 3-6 Mbps and 6-12 Mbps segments. The best ratio in the 0-3 Mbps segment is offered by XS4ALL. The study is based on tests by almost 13,000 consumers of their down- and upload speeds, collected by iPing.
