Base starts Chromecast sales
German mobile operator Base announced it will start offering Google's Chromecast streaming HDMI dongle to customers. Base offers the Chromecast with a Samsung Galaxy S4 and Base smart plan from EUR 25 per month. Customers can get the dongle also with an Asus tablet and the Internet M plan for EUR 16 per month. Without a contract, the Chromecast costs EUR 35 from Base. Customers can also subscribe to the Watchever VoD service for a discounted price of EUR 3.99, down from EUR 8.99 normally, when buying the device.

Google heeft bij monde van zijn hoofd productmanagement Mario Quieroz gemeld dat de Chromecast inmiddels 650 miljoen keer is gebruikt. Via Chromecast is het mogelijk om OTT-content op een tablet of smartphone weer te geven op een gewone tv via de HDMI-poort. Drie maanden geleden drukten nog 400 miljoen gebruikers op de 'cast button' om content te streamen. Volgens Queiroz zijn er meer dan 10.000 apps die inmiddels Chromecast-ondersteuning bieden. Tesco offers free Blinkbox credit to Chromecast buyers

Tesco is offering GBP 5 of credit to spend on the Blinkbox film and TV streaming service to shoppers who by a Chromecast in store or online. The GBP 30 media streaming device turns a TV with an HDMI port into an internet-connected TV. The offer runs from 07 August to 31 October.

Vodafone UK to sell Chromecast in shops

Vodafone UK announced that it will start selling Google's Chromecast media streaming device in its shops. Vodafone Red customers will be able to buy the device at the discounted price of GBP 25, while other customers pay GBP 30. This follows earlier media offers from the mobile operator for discounted or free access to Netflix, Spotify or Sky Sports Mobile. Chromecast plugs into the HDMI port of a TV and allows users to 'cast' content from their smartphone, tablet or computer to the TV screen.

Google marks Chromecast anniversary with free music offer

Google announced a promotional offer to mark the one-year anniversary of its Chromecast streaming TV device. US Chromecast users will receive 90 days free of a Google Play Music All Access subscription. The offer is valid until 30 September and can be redeemed online. Chromecast is now available in 30,000 stores in 20 countries. Google said users have 'cast' content on the device over 400 million times. The company plans further updates to the device in the coming months, such as the ability to allow others

Google adds mobile mirroring to Chromecast

Google has added a "mirror" function to its Chromecast device, allowing users to see what's on the screen of their Android phone or tablet on the TV screen at the same time. To start mirroring, they select "Cast Screen" in the Chromecast app. This feature is in beta and will roll out on popular Android phones or tablets from Samsung, HTC, LG and others over the next few days, Google said. The 1.7 update of the Chromecast app on Google Play will enable the new feature.
