Bayan plans LTE roll-out

Philippine telecommunications company Bayan Telecommunications (Bayantel) plans to roll out LTE services to remain competitive. The company has told the regulator that it is working on a proof of concept with several vendors for LTE services using its existing frequencies in the 1800 MHz band, the Manila Times reports. The company already has secured approval from the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) to extend its permission to roll out a cellular mobile telephone system (CMTS) until 3 November 2013. The permission can be revoked if the company does not continue to expand its mobile network across the country. To date, Bayan has installed 428 cell sites in several regions. The company also provides WLL services using the CDMA2000 standard. Bayan said it plans to use the CMTS infrastructure already in place for the LTE roll-out.
